The Living Sisters apply their honeyed vocal blend to a batch of well-chosen covers on this six-song EP. Inara George, Becky Stark, Eleni Mandell, and Alex Lilly display the same combination of sweetness and wit that made their 2010 debut, Love to Live, such a pleasure. The foursome takes a stripped-down production approach, giving this set the feel of a street-corner harmony jam. The 1954 Jo Stafford hit “Make Love to Me” gets a brisk rockabilly-tinged treatment that highlights The Living Sisters’ debt to The Andrews Sisters and similar swing-era groups. Getting more experimental, they bring a hip-swaying flow to Funkadelic’s “Can You Get to That” and deliver a version of “Que Sera, Sera” that owes equal amounts to the Doris Day and Sly Stone versions. Pedal steel accents add a lonesome country feel to the Patsy Cline classics “Sweet Dreams” and “A Poor Man’s Roses.” An a cappella rendition of Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” is the EP’s most sublime moment, showing off both the Sisters’ stunning harmonies and the lyrics' tormented beauty.
