Not that it's a huge stretch or surprise, but did you know that Rick "Jessie's Girl" Springfield starred in a ‘70s Saturday morning cartoon before landing a role on General Hospital? During his tenure on the animated Mission Magic he rocked out for small children with a morally conclusive song at the end of each episode. This collection of those songs assembles a surprisingly stellar body of work, especially if you happen to dig '70s guitar pop with stick-to-your-shoe bubblegum hooks and glammed-out double-guitar leads. The harmonizing solos and contagiously catchy doo-doo-doos of "You Can Really Do it (If You Try)" help the song sound like a lost T.Rex and Bay City Rollers collaboration, while the theme song is an uplifting hit with pounding pianos, gospel singers and Springfield's young voice emoting like a tougher Dwight Twilley. You certainly don't need to have kids of your own to enjoy this soundtrack, but cool parents (especially those raised in the '70s) might consider that Mission Magic is like a rock 'n' rolling big brother to Marlo Thomas' "Free To Be…You And Me."
