One of hip-hop's most eccentric and unpredictable artists, Kool Keith has been bugging out on wax since the '80s, when he hit the scene with Ultramagnetic MCs. Over the course of nearly 30 years, he's unleashed a barrage of material with countless collaborators. His classic concept albums include Dr. Octagonecologyst, Sex Style, and Masters of Illusion. Unfortunately, much of his recent output has been inconsistent at best, and even some of his most ardent supporters have started to concede that perhaps his best work is behind him. Love & Danger is rumored to be his last album (we'll see about that), and it finds Keith spitting his trademark stream-of-consciousness flows over synth-heavy beats produced by DJ Junkaz Lou. The previously released single "New York" is a nice tribute to his hometown, complete with shout-outs to Jay-Z and the restaurant Junior's. "Supremacy" takes white industry bigwigs to task, while "Something Special" is a decent love jam and "Cowboy Howdy" plays like a parody of the Dirty South sound. It's still Kool Keith, and it's definitely worth a listen.
