Danish musician Søren Løkke Juul has quickly gained momentum with his alter ego Indians. He performed his first concert in February 2012, self-released a debut single in April, toured Europe and North America, and signed a worldwide album deal with the esteemed label 4AD. 2013's Somewhere Else is sparse and restrained but also heavily manipulated, as a few keyboards and voice create a web of sound that's impossible to fully penetrate. Recorded in a countryside studio outside of Copenhagen, the album sounds technological yet also wistfully bucolic and humane. "Bird" adds synthetic swooshes, but the heart of the song is an airy falsetto vocal that hurts too much to go clear. "I Am Haunted" is much more propulsive, adding an acoustic guitar to push forth a choir of voices. "Magic Kids" swerves into an ethereal world. "Cakelakers" brings forth more acoustic guitar for further dream-folk sounds. The album comes with the bonus "4AD Sessions": three tracks recorded outdoors on Osea Island, in both audio and video form.
